Sculptra FAQs
How many Treatments Will I Need?
The number of injection appointments and number of injections per appointment vary from person to person, depending on the patient’s goals and how much collagen they’ve lost. (During your initial visit to our practice in Milford, we will review the best treatment plan for you.) On average, three injection appointments are needed over a period of a few months to achieve desired results. A typical appointment lasts less than 60 minut
After each appointment, results will appear gradually in the coming weeks as the skin produces more and more collagen over that time. Sculptra is administered during an in-office appointment that typically takes about 30 minutes.
How Much Does Sculptra Cost?
The cost of Sculptra depends on several factors, including the number of treatment appointments required and the number of vials of Sculptra needed to achieve a patient’s desired results. Together we will review these factors and our team will provide the cost of treatment. Sculptra Aesthetic is not currently covered by health insurance in most instances. However, the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services made the decision to cover the cost of Sculptra for people living with HIV who are experiencing depress due to facial lipodystrophy syndrome.
At our age management center in Milford, Connecticut we offer financing plans, as well.
Is Sculptra Safe?
A small prick can be felt from the Sculptra injection as the needle inserts through the skin, but we use a topical anesthetic or numbing agent, if desired, to eliminate the sensation. Immediately following a Sculptra injection, there may be some mild bruising and redness at the injection site. This typically subsides a few hours after the procedure. Although this is not experienced by everyone, and some patients undergo a treatment session on their lunch break with little to no adverse effects afterwards. Patients can resume normal activities after treatment, but we recommend avoiding exercise for a few hours.
How does Sculptra compare to other collagen treatments?
Sculptra addresses the underlying case of facial aging, not just the symptoms. Here is how it compares to other popular collagen enhancers.
- Collagen Creams - topical treatments that work as effective moisturizers and can briefly improve the skin’s appearance. However, they do not fully penetrate the dermis and do not strengthen or provide an increase in the body’s collagen strands.
- Collagen Supplements - ingestibles, like a pill or powder, that enter the digestive system where collagen proteins are broken down and absorbed into the body. The effectiveness, if any, of collagen supplements are inconclusive.
- Dermal Fillers - an injection that fills in lines, wrinkles and folds of the skin. Fillers do not have an effect on collagen. They provide immediate results in smoothing the skin, but don’t last as long as the results from Sculptra.
- Sculptra - an injection that stimulates production of new collagen in the skin. The best tested method to improve collagen within the dermis.
Galleri FAQs
Am I eligible for the Galleri test?
The Galleri test may be right for people between the ages of 40-45 who:
- Smoke or quit smoking in the last 10 years
- Have a parent, child and/or sibling who has had cancer
- Have received an organ transplant
- Have tested positive for HIV
Risk of cancer increases as we age. So the Galleri test is also recommended for adults ages 50 or older.
The following are NOT eligible for the Galleri test:
- Those diagnosed or treated for cancer within the past three years. (You need to be 3 years past surgery, chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy but can still be taking hormonal therapy.)
- Those aged 39 years or younger
- Those currently pregnant
Where can I take the Galleri test?
The easiest way to take the Galleri test is to make an appointment at our HyperFit MD practice in Milford, Connecticut. We have the kits in our office and can perform the test during your visit.
The other way to take the Galleri test is a little more involved.
First you must request a test yourself. Visit here to learn more about requesting a Galleri test.
Once approved, and you receive the Galleri test kit, you can schedule a blood draw appointment with one of GRAIL’s partner laboratories. Find the closest location to you.
Please do not open your collection kit. The kit should be unopened when you take it to a lab. A certified lab technician will open it for you and administer the blood draw.
Or you can skip all that, and not worry about getting a kit mailed to your home, and instead let us take care of everything. All you would need to do is visit our practice in Milford.

Currently, the Galleri test is not covered by insurance. However, we do provide flexible payment plans at our practice. You may also be able to use your flexible spending account (FSA) or health savings account (HSA) to pay for the Galleri test. Check with your FSA/HSA administrator to determine eligibility.
EMSELLA FAQs
When will I see results?
A single treatment session using ESMELLA takes 28 minutes. Patients often see improvements after a single session. Results will continue to improve over the next few weeks. For some, a single session is all they will need. For most, an optimal treatment plan would include six sessions, scheduled twice a week for the best results.
Who shouldn't use EMSELLA?
People who are pregnant, have metal implants, or have tumors or heart disorders should not use the BTL EMSELLA chair to treat urinary incontinence.
Is EMSELLA the same as Kegels?
Kegels are one way to treat a weak pelvic floor. Also known as "pelvic floor exercises," they are performed by squeezing the pelvic floor for 3 second (as if you were holding in pee), releasing and repeating. While effective, Kegels require effort and continued commitment to deliver results. The BTL EMSELLA chair provide the same results faster with much less effort on your part. A single EMSELLA session is equivalent to doing over 10,000 Kegels.
What is a pelvic floor?
The pelvic floor is the bowl-shaped muscles in the pelvic area that support pelvic organs, including the uterus, bladder and rectum. The pelvic floor muscles serve to prevent incontinence of bladder and bowel, prevent prolapse (the bulging or falling out of uterus or rectum) and aid in sexual function.
